Southwick Revival 2022 – What an event!
The return of Southwick Revival!
After a one year hiatus due to COVID, Southwick Revival Spirit of D Day came back with a bang on the weekend of the 11/12 June 2022.
The classic tried and tested features of the weekend remained as firm crowd pleasers, the Military Wives Choir concert was a sell out, as was of course the Map room visits. The Military Vehicle Display included some rare and impressive pieces of kit. 1940’s School Lessons turn back time. Cadets battled it out with their Field Gun competition. High powered speakers in the marquee entertained, enlightened and scared us in equal measure. Walking History Tours told the story of Southwick to groups of visitors. The Baker Street Boys ‘Home Front’ display included a fascinating wartime cookery demonstration.
The Street market was as popular as ever and Old Ma’s 1940’s Tearooms was serving tea and cake constantly. The Pie Stall sold out and our two pubs and the village tearoom were feeding and entertaining visitors from beginning to end. Horndean Band played their hearts out, singers sang and Churchill spoke. BBMF flew a Spitfire and Hurricane
New for 2022 was the ‘Best Dressed’ competition, with a full awards ceremony taking place in the Golden lion marquee, the site of another new feature – the performance of a play both afternoons of the weekend which was written and directed by the winner of the Flight in a Spitfire last year, Johnny Carrington.
2022 also saw Models for Heroes and Mulberry Harbours Modellers joined us for the first time, adding an interactive element to the weekend.
The main focus for Southwick Revival is fundraising, and we were amazed to have generated our second best year yet raising £46,000 of which over £30,000 was awarded to local charities.
